Dow hits a record high as markets rally after Fed remarks

By Stan Choe | Associated PressNEW YORK — A powerful rally across Wall Street sent the Dow Jones Industrial Average to a record on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve indicated that the cuts to interest rates investors crave so much may be coming next year.The Dow jumped 512 points, or 1.4%, to top 37,000 and surpass its prior peak of 36,799.65 set at the start of last year.Other, more widely followed indexes of U.S. stocks also leaped. The S&P 500 rose 1.4% and is within 2% of its own record. The Nasdaq composite also gained 1.4%.Wall Street loves lower interest rates because they can relax the pressure on the economy and goose prices for all kinds of investments. Markets have been rallying since October amid rising hopes that cuts may be on the way.Rate cuts particularly help investments seen as expensive, lower quality or that force their investors to wait the longest for big growth. LOS ANGELES — The NBA suspended Draymond Green indefinitely, the league announced Wednesday in a statement that provided vague language for the terms required for him to return to play.Green was suspended for hitting Jusuf Nurkic, earning him a Flagrant 2 foul and ejection in the Warriors’ loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night.“He will be required to meet certain league and team conditions before he can return to play,” the league statement reads.This is Green’s second suspension of the season just 23 games into the year and marked his third ejection of the season. Effectively immediately, the decision to suspend him was due to "Green's repeated history of unsportsmanlike conduct." Ex-cop charged in connection to Pleasant Hill SWAT standoff

(KRON) -- Prosecutors filed criminal charges against a U.S. Marine and retired East Bay police officer who allegedly shot his wife, barricaded himself inside his Pleasant Hill home for three days, prompted a neighborhood-wide shelter-in-place order, and shot at SWAT team vehicles. Chunliam Nai Saechao, 40, is being held without bail in Martinez Detention Facility. On Wednesday, the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office charged him with nine felony counts, including attempted murder of police officers, assault with a firearm, and injuring a spouse.Saechao served in the United States Marine Corps before he joined the Pittsburg Police Department in 2007. Overturned big rig on Hwy 101 in San Jose causes traffic delay

(KRON) -- A big rig on the northbound lanes of Highway 101 in San Jose flipped on its side Wednesday afternoon, according to California Highway Patrol. The vehicle was overturned at around 3:26 p.m. on the offramp between the highway and Old Bayshore Highway. 49ers investigating noose seen at tailgate ahead of Seahawks game The offramp will be closed for about two hours, but crews are working to clear the lanes "as fast as possible," CHP said. The agency also reported gas leaking from the big rig.The San Jose Fire Department was also at the scene and responded to the overturned vehicle. NEW YORK (AP) — Taj Gibson is returning to the New York Knicks, reuniting coach Tom Thibodeau with one of his trusted veteran players. Priority Sports, which represents Gibson, posted on social media Wednesday that the Brooklyn product was heading home to play for the Knicks, who are in need of big man help after starting center Mitchell Robinson was lost for at least two months with a stress fracture in his left ankle. Gibson played for the Knicks from 2019-22, helping them return to the postseason in 2021 after a seven-year absence. He then spent one season with the Washington Wizards. The 38-year-old Gibson, a first-round pick in the 2009 draft, previously played for Thibodeau in Chicago and Minnesota.
